Alice Minnie Lawrence (née Hanson) passed away peacefully at Wynyard Golden Acres on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the age of 87.
Alice was born on February 16, 1929, to Karl and Mabel Hanson on the family farm in the Copeland District. She was the second oldest of 10 children. Alice obtained all her education at Copeland School. She worked for various farmers as a housekeeper in the Foote-Copeland District.
Alice met the love of her life, Doug Lawrence, while working for Mrs. Smith in the Kandahar area. Prior to her marriage, Alice worked one season at the Mozart Post Office. Then on October 12, 1950, she and Doug were married. At that time they began their farming career together in the Levant District. They were blessed with three children, Doug, Evelyn and June.
Alice became a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed gardening – especially her flower gardens. In her spare time she loved curling, going for walks, her family, especially the grandchildren, and her coffee time at the bakery.
On February 3, 1982, Alice lost her husband Doug very suddenly while he was curling in Wynyard. Shortly thereafter, she moved into Wynyard, living on her own until September 2016, at which time she became a resident in Golden Acres.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Mabel Hanson; brothers, Arnold, Raymond, Robert; sister Violet Lawrence; sister-in-law Phyllis Hanson; and brother-in-law Allan Lawrence.
She is survived by her children, Doug (Debbie), Evelyn (Howie), and June (Greg); grandchildren, Kimberley, Matthew (Cori), Jennifer, Stuart, Laura (Mike), Doug (Leslie), and Brittany (Josh); 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Marjorie (Wilmar) Johnson, Grace Johnson and Doris (Paul) Pylypuik; and brothers, Gordon (Darlene) Hanson and Richard Hanson.
