Anna was born on February 21, 1929, in Riverton, Man., to Halfdon and Una Eastman. When she was three, the family moved their house, pulled by a team of horses, across the frozen Lake Winnipeg to the Howardville district north of town. Students at Woodglen School were taught up to grade eight only, so in order to further her education, Anna had to move to Riverton. There she cooked, cleaned houses and milked cows twice a day to pay for her room and board. From a young age, she and two of her brothers, Dori and Gisli, would take the horse and buggy to play and sing at barn dances and house parties. These usually lasted until dawn and their pay would be one dollar for the whole night! In 1947 Anna married Victor Eastman. Together they farmed and raised their two sons and a daughter. Anna continued to play for school dances and parties when she and Sam Zapotichney teamed up to entertain the crowds and keep them dancing. Anna was a self-taught musician and could play any instrument she picked up. Guitar, violin and accordion were her favourites. Anna was a real homebody, but enjoyed going back to Riverton every summer to visit her family and friends "back home." Besides her family, crocheting, baking and gardening were her passions. In later years she discovered bowling and even won a few trophies. Coffee was always on at "Amma's house," along with a variety of goodies. She loved company. Anna was predeceased by her husband of 53 years,Victor, in 2000; great-grandson Brandon; sister Gudlaug; brothers, Dori and Herbert; sisters-in-law Deanna, Judy and Fjola; brothers-in-law, Kris Johnson, Roy Code and Gordon Tuddenham; parents, Halfdon and Una; and Victor's parents, Erikur and Laufey. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son Padgett (Mary) and children: Cindi (Erica & Alex) Doonarco and Kimberli (Andy) McCarrick (Shalene & Jack); son Curtis (Xaviera) and children: Shane (Kaleigh & Chase), Cody (Eric, Allison & Colton), Wade (Lindsay) (Jackson) and Dustin; daughter Colette (Milton Melnychuk) and children: Merle (Jennifer) (Nevaeh & Maxyn), Marty (Rose) (Mathew & Mason), and Jere (Michael Glover) (Callie Anna). Also left to mourn her passing are her loving brothers, Gisli, Halli and Robert; sisters, Carol (Billy Bell) and Olive; and numerous nephews and nieces.
