Barbara Torgerson
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Barbara Anne Torgerson, of Porcupine Plain, SK passed away on January 21, 2021, at the Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcupine Plain, SK.
Barb was born on December 9, 1940, to Ernest and Opal Halvorson on the family farm by Rose Valley, SK. She attended Mallard School, west of Fosston until grade 9. On November 18, 1959, she married Marvin Torgerson.
Marvin and Barb farmed and raised five boys: Terry, Roger, Dale, Darrin and David. Barb helped on the farm anywhere she could including milking the cows, raising pigs and selling fresh cream in Wadena. She was quite fond of her chickens as well. She was an active member of the Fosston hall Ladies Aid for many years.
Barb enjoyed entertaining and you never left her house without a meal. Her favorite dish was her Norwegian potato dumplings she called Potato Crib which she would make three or four times a week, especially in the winter. She enjoyed playing Whist with the neighbors and you could be sure there would be chocolate cake with whipping cream made from fresh cream.
Barb loved children. It did not matter whose children they were she loved them all and was known as Aunty Barb to everyone. Her love of children lead her to babysit for many local families. As a grandma, she never missed one of her grandchildren’s Christmas concerts.
Barb is survived by her children Terry (Fran), Roger (Debbie), Dale (Vickie), Darrin “Willy” and David (Cindy); grandchildren Boni (Aaron), Sherry, Michael and Ashley (Kevin); great grandchildren Axton, Ainsley, Ava, Serenity and Reign; sister Beverly (Dave) Hudy; brothers Melvin (Elaine) and Alvin (Mavis); sisters-in-law Raelene and Lillian as well as many extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband Marvin in 2014, parents Ernest and Opal as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
