Beverly Joan Young

Beverly Joan Young passed away on Oct 17, 2024 at the age of 77 in the Humboldt hospital. 

She grew up on a farm in the Kuroki area, and went to the Bear Lake one room school. After school she moved to Brandon, Manioba where she trained and worked to be a nurses aide at the Brandon Psychiatric Hospital and later worked at the Saskatchewan Psychiatric Hospital in North Battleford. She loved her job.Later she moved to Saskatoon and then Edmonton. Along the way she met her loving partner Richard Maurice LaBoucane (Donny) who passed away in Sept 2008.

In 2009 she moved back to Wadena to reconnect with family and friends and brought with her her beloved dog Sadie. Bev and Donny shared a love of camping and they travelled around Alberta and Saskatchewan enjoying the outdoors. She loved doing crafts of all kinds--especially knitting and crocheting. She made many beautiful afghans which she gifted to family and friends. She also loved birds and always had birdhouses around. Her friend called her the "Bird Lady'. The TV was always on the sports channel watching curling or baseball, especially if the Blue Jays were playing.She always had a smile and a cup of coffee for company.The last few years brought her many health issues. In the spring of 2024 she had to move to St Mary's long term care home in Humboldt. She settled in and enjoyed the games and socializing. St. Mary’s had a beautiful court yard filled with flowers, where she loved spending time.

Bev Is survived by her daughter Irma Unger, grandson Mathew Unger, grandaughter Kaitlyn Unger and a great grandaughter of Saskatoon. Sisters Karen Rorquist (Darryl) of Wadena, June Szwec (Oscar) of Edson, Alberta and brother Wayne Ottmann of White rock , BC.along with aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews.

 Interment will be in the spring 2025

On November 1st, 2024, a Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm at the Wadena Baptist Church
