Brittany passed away suddenly in her home on Tuesday June 18, 2024, in Spiritwood, SK at the age of 31.
Brittany was born in Saskatoon at the RUH hospital on Sept 9, 1992, to Erling and Karen Brakefield. Brittany was the youngest of seven kids who all attended school in Wynyard, SK. Brittany had a true calling and love for art, whether she created it or admired it, she seemed to find peace in the abstract. Brittany was excited to move from Wynyard to the farm in 2002. She made the land into a home she loved by planting trees and Saskatoon berry bushes. She also become great friends with Bob and Penny Baker, who lived next door. Penny would often invite Brittany over to make crafts and visit; they cherished each other’s company. Brittany loved spending time on the farm, whether in the garden with mom or in the field with dad, she loved being in nature. Brittany had two great childhood companions, Maggie and Kiara, border collies who followed her wherever she went. The trio had a bond like none other and she enjoyed sharing stories about all the favorite little adventures they went on, or when they weren’t listening…
After graduating from Wynyard Composite High School in 2012, Brittany moved to Saskatoon, where she took a job working for the Co-op Grocery store stocking shelves and helping customers. She was so happy to share stories about her positive experiences with customers, they made her day! She also loved working with her co-workers, who she had created great bonds with.
Brittany met her husband Cale in 2017. Their first date was at a Tim Hortons in Saskatoon, and Brittany would often say he turned her world upside down in the best way! They dated for 4 years before Cale proposed to Brittany at the same Tim Hortons in which they had their first date. The following year they were married in January of 2022 at a small reception in Spiritwood, SK. Brittany loved all animals and during their relationship, her and Cale welcomed their two dogs, Bo and Duchess, into their family. Brittany often said Bo acted human-like and Duchess was a goofball. Brittany loved travelling with Cale. They went to the USA where they spent time in Deadwood and explored many other attractions, camping as they went. They also took in CFL games in Calgary cheering on their team the Stampeders! Brittany developed a love for watching hockey. She’d cheer for the Las Vegas Knights and some rather warm conversations would happen about which hockey team was better. Further to that, Brittany experienced great joy bugging her brother about his love for the Edmonton Oilers...
Brittany is survived by her parents and siblings, which we all know is a long list, and many nieces and nephews who made her world so much more. Brittany was over the moon when she found out she became a great Auntie; family was so important to her. Brittany’s memory will be cherished as she has touched so many people in this world, none more than her family, friends, and the love of her life Cale.
