Donald Floyd Edward Anderson, a cherished individual known for his kind, loving, caring, sarcastic, and humorous personality, passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 87 at Kelvington Hospital. Born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, on September 13, 1937, to Clarence and Nellie Anderson, Don lived a life filled with tremendous passion and care for others.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rosemarie Anderson (Dubreuil), and his children: Perry Anderson, Craig Anderson, Milo Anderson, and Treena Anderson, along with their partners. He is also survived by his sister Ronaleen Hassel and brother Neil Anderson, and their partners, as well as 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, all of whom had their lives greatly enriched by Don’s presence. His departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they find great comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.
Donald left school to pursue a career in 1956, joining the army with the Queen’s Own Rifles (Calgary), where he was called to serve at the Suez Canal and later participated in A-Bomb testing in the Nevada desert. Don left the army in 1959 to support his family and embarked on various careers, including many years with the Archerwill Co-op and Wadena Esso, and spent 11 years as an entrepreneur working with Rogers. He continued his dedicated service as a Legion member and a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years.
One of Donald’s most memorable accomplishments was providing music and old-time dance lessons throughout the area. Dance was his passion, and Rosemarie will deeply miss her perfect dance partner as they graced the dance floor together.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Nellie Anderson, his brother Dale Anderson, and his uncle Teddy Smith.
In remembrance of Don, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Rose Valley community or to a cancer charity of your choice.
Donald served the entirety of his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, showing and teaching by example what it means to be a true role model. Through his unique blend of fact and fun, he captured the attention of everyone around him and made life the best it could be. He has left us all with memories that will be cherished forever. We love you, and while we will miss you deeply, we will never forget you.
Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Church in Rose Valley at 10 a.m. on October 5, 2024, followed by a graveside service at the Rose Valley Cemetery. A celebration of Donald’s life, including lunch, will be held at the Rose Valley Community Hall.
