Donald Jacob Wallace

January 27, 1936 — September 14, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don Wallace, who moved to Heaven on September 14, 2024 at the age of 88. Don’s faith, love for his family, the land and the open road defined his life and left a lasting legacy in his community.

Born on January 27, 1936, Don grew up on the family farm east of Naicam, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication from a young age. His passion for farming was evident in every field he tilled and every crop he harvested. Don’s commitment to agriculture was not just a livelihood but a way of life, and he took great pride in nurturing the land and ensuring its productivity.

In addition to his farming endeavors, Don found another passion in trucking. He spent over 60 years driving across North America, hauling goods and meeting people from all walks of life. Don’s truck was more than just a vehicle; it was his second home, and he took immense joy in the freedom it represented.

Don was a dedicated family man. He married Barbara Porterfield on October 15, 1958 and they lived on the farm until 2018 when they moved to Melfort. It didn’t take long to make new friends and settle in but Naicam would always be home. They enjoyed visits and phone calls from old friends and neighbors and getting caught up on the latest happenings. Don and Barb were blessed with 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Family, friends and faith were Don’s passion. He also loved travelling, good food and music-especially gospel quartets.

Don is predeceased by Barb, his wife of 62 years, their son Lyle, his parents (Ted and Mary), in laws (Cecil and Elma Porterfield) and siblings (Lena, Amos and Laura). He is survived by his daughter, Dolores, and granddaughters, Shelby (Tyler) and Phoebe. Don’s family was his pride and he relished every moment spent with them.

Don is also remembered by his extended family, friends and neighbors, all of whom were touched by his generosity, wisdom and sense of humor. His commitment to community was evident in his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Don’s memory will live on through the fields he cultivated, the roads he traveled and the many lives he touched. His spirit of adventure, dedication to hard work and unwavering love for his family will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
