In Loving Memory of
Edith Inga Hansen was born on February 19, 1924 in Big Valley, Alberta. She was the second child for Christian and Inge Hansen. Life was not easy for the young family and became even tougher with the loss of their father in 1935. Inge moved the family, now 3 children, to Hubbard and stayed on their grandmother’s farm. They later moved to Wadena, where Edith attended school until the age of 14. Like many others in those days, she left school to find work as a housekeeper to make ends meet. In 1943 the family purchased a farm in the Margo district.
This is where Edith met Wallace Lappi. The couple were married in Chilliwack at her sister’s on December 7, 1951. The couple farmed, and Wallace also worked at the Massey Ferguson dealership in Invermay. They welcomed the birth of their son, Laird, in September 1956. Wallace and Edith later bought the dealership but sold it in the early 60’s to concentrate on the farm and family. Edith loved the farm and was an active participant, helping Wallace with the harvest and running for repairs when there were breakdowns. Wallace and Edith stayed on the farm until 2009 when they moved to Wadena.
Edith had many interests. She loved gardening and had flowers everywhere. She always participated in the Invermay Fair, putting entries in for gardening, baking and trying for best farm yard as well. Painting was another hobby and playing cards was always on the agenda. She loved sports, always watching baseball and curling. Wallace and Edith travelled to Minnesota many times to watch the Blue Jays and Edith was the ladies single horseshoe champion for Saskatchewan in 1974.
After Wallace passed away in 2011 Edith stayed in her home until November 2018 when she moved to Weneeda Park Lodge. Unfortunately, her health was failing, and she passed away on New Year’s Day after a brief illness.
Edith was predeceased her husband, Wallace, her sister and brother-in-law Genevieve (Steve) Leontowich and their children John and Bonnie. She leaves behind her son Laird (ThoaiVan), grandson Taylor, brother Edwin (Mary) Hansen and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
