Edsel Otto Anderson was born on May 13, 1925, on the farm outside of Fosston. He passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017.
Edsel was the eldest son of Albert and Helga Anderson. He was raised on the family farm east of Fosston and attended school in Fosston. He took turns with his brother, Dinal, working out on other farms, in lumber mills and at other jobs. He bought more land and farmed with his brother. After a chance meeting on Highway 35, with Elizabeth Josephine Doolan, he married on November 4, 1972. Three years after they were married, they adopted children, Valerie, Melvin and Sidney.
Edsel was a humble, hard-working, patient man of strong faith. He worked tirelessly on the farm, but made time for board games, quiet evenings reading in the living room, visiting over a cup of coffee with neighbours and friends and trips to the cabin at Greenwater Lake. He was active in the church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Third Degree Knight). He travelled to B.C., P.E.I., Nova Scotia, Ottawa and down to the States numerous times, visiting relatives and to England and Norway as well.
Edsel had hobbies that included whittling and woodworking. He made a little pair of Dutch shoes, a dolphin, a leprechaun, the ‘shoe’ that the little old lady lived in and many other treasures. He made many wall hangings that were rug hooked. He enjoyed puzzles that were 1000 pieces or so and tried his hand, very successfully, at 3 - D puzzles as well. He wasn’t a tv person, but when he wasn’t watching the news, he watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Edsel lived on the farm until 1991 with Betty Jo. They moved into Fosston then on to Regina. He moved back to his hometown after Betty’s passing. He was a resident at the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge for a short time and his final home was the Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena. There he enjoyed reading, games of bingo and listening to people who came in to sing or play music.
Edsel was predeceased by his wife Betty Jo Anderson; mother Helga; father Albert; and sisters, Winnifred and Viola Anderson.
Left to mourn are his brother Dinal; daughter Valerie Wilton (Trenton); sons, Melvin (Phyllis) and Sidney (Tara) Anderson; grandchildren, Jeff (Halley), Jocelyn, Nathanial (Nikita), Annabelle, Kaleigha, Jordan, Teia, Anthony and Haizen; step-grandchildren, Jordan, Justin, Alexa, Cael and Tren; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Onara, Rylan, Tinika, Marissa, Payton and Beau.
