Elmer Munz was born on January 21, 1935, to Fritz and Pauline Munz, in Quill Lake. He passed away suddenly on January 20, 2017, at the age of 81, about sevenhours short of his 82nd birthday.
Elmer obtained his schooling at Valley Plain and after, started farming with his dad on the family farm. In 1963, he married Beverley Jude of Peterborough, Ontario, after a very short courtship – just ask Irene Griller about that one. Elmer and Bev had three children, Robert (1965), Michael (1967) and Nicole (1971).
Elmer continued farming until 1986; in 1987, he became a crop insurance adjuster. In 1992, he purchased a lot in the village of Quill Lake where he moved the family farmhouse.
Elmer enjoyed coffee row every morning and playing crib. Smear was also a big hit around family. He enjoyed golf in the summers along with gardening. He curled in the winters right up until his passing and will be missed by his teammates. Elmer was also the community plumber and am told was still charging out 1976 rates.
He made faithful trips to Wadena Pleasant View Care Home to visit his wife, Bev, over the last two years where she currently resides.
Elmer recently enjoyed a trip to Las Vegas in November 2016 with his two children, Bob and Nicole, and her husband Roger, where fond memories were made – a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, a boat ride along the Colorado River, a tour of Hoover Dam, and who could forget a visit to Fremont Street. He also had his picture taken with Lucille Ball at the wax museum.
Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Fritz (1984) and Pauline (1987); and his son Michael (1997).
He is survived by his wife Beverley; son Robert and daughter Nicole (Roger); brother Norman (Jean); grandchildren, Toni, Shayla and Ethan; nephew Brian (Lindsey) and great-nephew Jack.
Elmer was well known for his quick wit and will be remembered with laughter and lovingly missed by all whose lives he touched.
