Eula Ethel Katherine was the second daughter born to Charles and Hattie Belle Sunderland on May 14, 1918, at Quill Lake. She attended Gardenia School and worked for many families in the area. She went to Tisdale and worked for two years in a bakery before coming home and working at the Wadena Hospital and Quill Lake Nursing Home, where she served as matron. On December 13, 1950, she married Bert Elphinstone, who had recently returned from serving five years in the armed forces, which included serving in Germany and Holland. Together they worked hard to build a life on a mixed farm - which included milking cows, raising chickens, growing a huge garden, etc. Eula worked hard along side Bert and always had wonderful meals - baking, canning, and still had time for everyone! They loved visiting, playing cards and welcomed all of the grandkids as they came along. They raised three boys, Dale, Barrie and Bryce, who all worked along with their parents on the farm. Bert passed away suddenly in 1985 and Eula moved into senior housing in Wadena a few years later. Due to declining health she later moved to Pleasant View Care Home where she resided until her death. Eula was predeceased by her husband Bert; brothers, Edeth and Mervyn Sunderland; sisters, Iola Welsh, Mereta Wood and Dwade Coppens. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Dale (Claire) and their children, Dwayne (Cara) Madison, Grayson and Camdyn; Trevor (Holly) Connor, Parker, Sawyer and Wylder; Marcus (Lynn); Danell, Pam (Chuck), Eric and Alex; Gerald (Cynthia) Kayla, Jessica and Tori; Gene (Tracey) Magen, Kevin and Emily; Amanda (Ian) Jacob, Dysen and Weston; Barrie (Jeanne) and their children, Rocky (Tara) Kailey, Tyson, Rylan and Kypton; Brandi (Corey) Chaz and Cruz; Tara (Ryan) Madison and McKenna; Bryce and his children, Legan (Jon), Rory (Kim) Hailey and Brock and Blaine (April); brother Eldine Sunderland; sisters, Faye Erickson, Jennie Summach and Loretta Young; as well as many nieces and nephews.
