Francis Eugene Kayseas

October 10, 1970 — June 30, 2023

Fishing Lake First Nation

To our sadness, Francis Eugene Kayseas journeyed to his heavenly home June 30, 2023. Francis was born to Frank Kayseas and Leona Desjarlais.

Francis grew up on Fishing Lake First Nation alongside his cousins (brothers and sisters). This group of friends laughed and cried        together, recounted mischievous stories, conjured and poked fun, and supported each other in ways they could. His wit and humour were infectious. He was affectionately called “Wha-Foo” and “Bro Cat” by many who knew him.

Francis deeply cared and loved his children, his wife Stephanie,    family, and friends. He was a comfort and a listening ear for anyone who needed it, a favorite uncle, a babysitter for his nieces and     nephews, and he loved to transfer his passion, knowledge, and skill for hunting to his nephews. Francis was a self-sufficient, determined, kind man of many skills and talents. He valued people and things he stewarded, as demonstrated by his immaculate yard and home.

Father, partner, brother, uncle, and friend, Francis lived life to the fullest. Like his parents, Francis was a very active community person. Some of Francis’ favourite things to do were rattling whitetail deer and calling elk, ‘ski-dooing’ and ‘quading’. Slow pitch and ball      tournaments, sports events, ice fishing, hunting and camping          expeditions, and community gatherings will never be the same without Francis. His generosity will be dearly missed. Francis was also a part of the Fishing Lake hunting club and often provided wild game for community events, school children, Elders, and wild meat for   funeral feasts. Now he will be served and honoured.

Francis will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community members. Left to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life are his son Hunter, his wife Stephanie, siblings Karen Desjarlais, Darwin Desjarlais, Lorne Desjarlais, Yvette, and Lynette Desjarlais, Rhonda and Denise Natowcappo. He also leaves to mourn numerous aunties and uncles, cousins (brothers and sisters), nieces and nephews, and other loving family members and friends in and outside of his home community. Francis is predeceased by his daughter Precious, Dad Frank Kayseas, grandparents, and numerous friends and family  members.
