Genevieve “Jenny” Elizabeth Zagrodney was born to John and Amiela Polachek in Poland. At the age of one she immigrated to Canada with her parents and two older brothers, Joseph and Walter, where her parents homesteaded at Hightor. Her sister Mary was born while they lived there. During the war years, Jenny and her sister moved with their parents to the Perigord district where they farmed.
Jenny married Walter Zagrodney in 1948 and moved to Hendon, where they farmed and started their family. In 1954 they moved to Nut Mountain where they farmed until they retired to Kelvington in 1997. After Walter’s passing in 2009, and with her health failing, Jenny moved to the Kelvindell Lodge where she lived until her passing.
Jenny and Walter had five sons: Andrew, John, Robert, Mark and Matthew. Jenny was very proud that she had five boys. She also had seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; Jenny loved them all very much.
Jenny worked at the Kelvington Hospital for twenty-two years as an aid and as a lab and x-ray technician. She was an avid gardener who always had beautiful flowers. She loved to quilt and made quilts for everyone in the family.
Jenny is survived by her sons John (Mary), Robert (Dora); daughter-in-law Brenda; sister Mary Desroches; grandchildren Sherry (Collin) Sikora, Michael (Sherra), Phillip (Jen), Adam, Angela, Derek and Jessica Zagrodney; great grandchildren Keenan and Zolton Sikora, Timothan, Trevin, Meika, Jakebb, Nikola and Alice Zagrodney as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Walter, sons Andrew and Matthew, great grandson Trendon Zagrodney, parents John and Amiela, brothers Joe and Walter, father and mother-in-law John and Elizabeth, nephews Russell Roll, Dwight and Eugene Zagrodney, nieces Willamina Sunderland and Elizabeth Ewart and all her brothers and sisters-in-law.
Jenny will be missed by all.
Many thanks to the Kelvindell Lodge staff for giving such excellent care to our mother.
