It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother on September 21, 2019. She was predeceased by her brothers Michael, Alexander and Henry, grandson Darcy Klassen and husband Isaac (Ike). She will be sadly missed by her sister Vonda; son Jerry (Connie) Klassen and their sons Michael Klassen and Jeremy (Robyn) Klassen and their children Dominic and Morgan; daughter Jocelyn (Barry) Lane and their children Deven and Brody (Meghan) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Georgina was born on June 9, 1929 to Marian and Zophia Kocot in Bow Island, AB. She had two older brothers Michael and Alexander, and then a younger brother, Henry, and sister, Vonda. Her father, who was a shoe and harness maker, decided to try farming in the district of Lintlaw, SK. She attended grades 1 and 2 at Lodi School and then Woodstone School in the Lintlaw district. Her Mom passed away from cancer when she was only 15 years old, so she had to quit school and resume her mother’s duties in the family.

Georgina married Isaac (Ike) Klassen on November 30, 1950. They started farming in Gretna, MB with Ike’s brother Henry and two years later, Ike and Georgina moved to Lintlaw to farm. While Ike worked for Evan’s Construction of Saskatoon operating a caterpillar paving roads Georgina ran the farm and raised their children: son Jerry Russell was born in 1952 followed by daughter Jocelyn Jane in 1954.

Georgina was a dedicated wife, mother and a hard worker. Together, over the years, she and Ike farmed grain and raised cattle. Georgina raised chickens and sold them to the town folk and upholstered furniture to make some “she” spending money. She always had a huge vegetable garden and was excellent at canning and freezing. Her fruit garden consisted of raspberries, strawberries and crab apples. She would also pick and preserve wild berries, such as local Saskatoon berries and blueberries found near Hudson Bay.

She was a perfectionist in everything she did. She became an excellent seamstress and was talented in quilting, crocheting, knitting, upholstering and making pottery, amongst other things. She loved both real flowers and artificial flowers, and always had a flower garden outside as well as live and artificial flowers in the house. She also loved to feed the wild birds and watch them at her feeders. She had a bird book and binoculars and knew all the many beautiful species.

Many things that Georgina enjoyed over the years included visiting her lady friends, especially Helen Engele (they were Grade One classmates and became best friends), gardening, flowers, dancing, playing cards, listening to old time music and travelling with Ike and Ike’s sister and brother-in-law John and Margaret Loeppky in their motorhome to places in SK, AB, BC and the US, collecting antiques and collectibles along the way. She was also a loyal and long-time member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL).
