Gary (Gerhart) Herman Hornle was born on the farm at Spalding, Sask., on September 9, 1940, to William and Lena Hornle. In 1940 they moved to a farm at Archerwill.
Over the years Gary worked at Preneville Sawmills and at a nickel mine in Thompson. He later moved to Rose Valley where he operated his own mechanical shop; then moved to Wynyard and worked at the Co-op garage as head mechanic, later working at Parkland Concrete. He built his own sawmill and sawed, planed and sold lumber on his own. In 1998, he and Carol moved to Fort Qu’Appelle where they had a cow-calf operation.
Gary and Carol and Carol’s sister Frances enjoyed their annual Saturday drives touring around beautiful Saskatchewan, which they did on a regular basis. Coffee was always on and visitors always welcome at his house. Gary was an avid hunter. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing. Even in poor health, he enjoyed one last moose hunt with his son Dale.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Ernest.
Gary is survived by Carol, his loving partner of 27 years; son Dale (Leanne); grandchildren, Mikayla, Shania and Gerhart; daughter Karen (Brent) and granddaughter Kristen; son Kevin (Charlette) and grandchildren, Wyatt and Erica; sister Gladys (Dennis) Einarson and three nephews.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
