With profound sadness we announce the passing of Helen Alma Haugrud (nee Halpape/ Vigoren) on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025 at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Saskatoon, SK. Helen was born on the homestead 4 ½ miles west of Rose Valley on Feb. 14, 1928.
In 1935, Helen and her 3 brothers Ralph, Alvin, and Gordon moved to live with their grandparents, Peder and Laura Vigoren, on a homestead 6 miles north of Clair. Helen attended school at Park Villa and left school to do housework for different people. In 1947, she worked for Childs who had the post office and telephone exchange in Clair, operating the switchboard.
On June 6, 1949, Mom married Alexander James Halpape. They settled in Quill Lake, then in 1951 moved to their farm north east of Clair to raise their three children Ron, Margaret & Duaine.
In 1952, Alex passed away and Helen moved into Clair from the farm and worked to raise her 3 children. In 1957, Helen married Louis Haugrud. Together they raised 5 more boys, Allan, Terry, Douglas, Loyd and Lyle, on a farm near Scrip. They moved to Wadena in 1983, and Louis passed away in 1998. In 2000, Mom moved to Saskatoon where she resided until her passing.
Helen was predeceased by her first husband in 1952; her second husband in 1998; her brother Alvin in 1995; her brother Gordon in 2015; her brother Ralph in 2021; her son Ronald Halpape in 2024; and her grandson Troy in 2019.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Dennis); sons Duaine (Carla), Allan (Diane), Terry (Lori), Douglas (Crystal), Lyle and Loyd, and daughter-in-law Joan Halpape. Her grandchildren: Jason, Dara, Kristin. Rhea, Karen, Karla, Melissa, Brenan, Tal, William, Wesley, Curtis, Kenton, Kyle, Mathew, and Megan. Her Great Grandchildren: Marek,
Marley, Molly, Lochlan, Leroy, Amelia, Spencer, Megan, Ethan, Jack, Kaycee, Caelan, Brody, Barrett, Bryce, Harlow, Oaklyn, Willow, and another baby due any day (Tal). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family thanks you sincerely for sharing in their sorrow. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will always be remembered.
