Helen Betty Reid was born at Greenwich East in London, England, on May 1, 1922, to James and Ada Theobald. She passed away peacefully at home in Fosston, Saskatchewan, on October 1, 2014, at the age of 92.

Helen attended school in England and went through the bombing of London during World War II.

She became a War Bride by marrying Ambrose Reid, who was in the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war they settled in Newfoundland and raised a family of four children: Valerie, Terry, Judy and Glenn.

Helen was predeceased by Ambrose in 1959 and a year later moved to Saskatchewan, where she met and later married Don Reid in 1974. They moved to Burnaby, B.C., for several years, returning to live in Fosston in 1994.

Over the years Helen worked in nursing and as a mid-wife, and as a hotel receptionist. She was an avid reader of books, loved to knit and gardening. She also loved letter writing and had many pen pals. She was also an active member in the War Brides' Association.

Helen was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Eric, Sonny and Kieth; husbands, Ambrose (1959) and Don (1995); son Glenn (1991); and grandson Mitchell Reid in 2012.

She is survived by her daughter Valerie (Eric) Reschke of Regina, son Terry Reid of Regina, daughter Judy (Keith) Rudd of Florida and daughter Bonita Reid of Vancouver. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as by her sister Edna (Dinkie) in England, plus several nieces and nephews in England.
