A Family is a Gift that Lasts Forever
It is with great sadness that the family of James (Jim) Baker of Raymore announces his passing at Silver Heights Special Care Home on February 2, 2017, with his family by his side.
Jim was born June 2, 1924. On May 28, 1953, he married the love of his life, Ruth Potts. Jim and Ruth raised three daughters on the family farm north of Raymore.
He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 63 years; daughters, Dianne Eckel (Ken), daughter Angela Knowles (Andrew) - Liam, Connor, and Ryan; son Michael Eckel (Terri) - Niomi, Liam, Amelia, and Ayrianna; daughter Kerri Schmidt (Jordan); Debbie Stobbs, sons, James and Jarvis; Donna Eckel (Brock), daughter Christine Percival (Jordie) - Kinley and Makena; and son Aaron; sisters-in-law, Shirley Potts and Dorothy Baker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by parents, Ada and Jack; sisters, Elsie and Freda; twin brother Albert; grandsons, Jonathon Eckel and Jared Stobbs; and great-grandson Parker Knowles.
Jim loved farming until retiring to Raymore in 1990. He was an active member of the community and was involved in the Rural Municipality, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Raymore Credit Union, Raymore Museum, St. Martin’s Anglican Church and various other committees.
In 2015, Jim moved to the Silver Heights Special Care Home due to poor health, where he resided until his death.
Jim was an honest, kind, caring, hard-working husband and father, who took great pride in his family. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the times they spent playing in the backyard, playing cards, doing puzzles and making lasting memories.
