2:00 p.m. Heritage United ChurchRegina, Saskatchewan James/Jim Harry Cain passed away peacefully December 21, 2015, at the William Booth Care Home in Regina. He was born in Nelson, B.C., on August 7, 1943, to Harry and Katherina (Detta) Cain. Even though he was a towering 6'4" he was still a little brother to his sister Myrna. In the early 1960s shortly after high school, he attended RCMP Training in Ottawa and his first posting was in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After other postings in Rose Valley, Punnichy and Emma Lake. In 1968, he married Debbie Plaksy and immediately hopped on a plane the next day to a posting in Uranium City. Three children were born to this union: Todd, Aaron and Daysha. Life as an RCMP officer gave Jim and the family the opportunity to make many friends across Saskatchewan in further postings to Saskatoon, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Wadena and, finally in Regina, where he retired. Jim's love for helping and protecting those in need led him to continue after the RCMP in security duties at the hospitals and youth correction facilities in Regina. Jim had a severe stroke in 2009, which resulted in his last years in Wascana, Parkside and William Booth Care Homes in Regina. Long before chasing bad guys he also loved chasing pucks, and balls. He was competitive and excelled at many sports with many medals and trophies for a wide variety of sports with his biggest passions being hockey and baseball. As his family grew he also became active in coaching his kids' hockey and ball teams to help pass on the love of sport and competition. Jim had a passion for being on the water, from swimming across the Kootenay Lake as a kid in Nelson to owning a lake property where water skiing, swimming and fishing consumed the summer months. In Jim's line of work he would meet people from all walks of life and naturally created a special bond with each one of them. He may have shared the odd coffee or donut along the way with them as well. A smile or a groan, Jim's unique joke telling and sense of humour was memorable. He is survived by wife Debbie; sons, Todd (Karla - Aly, Zach, Gabby, Izzy) and Aaron (Candice - Arden & Ivy); daughter Daysha (Sean - Madelyn, Keira, Dominick, Greyson) Gifford; and sister Myrna (Elsie) Cain. Jim was predeceased by his father and mother. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
