Jean Elizabeth Rolles was born on August 31, 1928 and passed away, with family at her side, on October 9, 2019 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK after a short illness.
Mom grew up in the Margo area until the age of 16, when she moved to Flin Flon, MB. There she met and married Melvin Rolles on September 28, 1946. To this union were four children: Linda, Martin, Robert and Kenneth. They moved to Snow Lake, MB where they spent the next twenty years raising their family. During this time, the sudden loss of their son Robert occurred. This was a very difficult time for the family. They were surrounded by much prayer, family and friends.
In 1982 they moved to Wadena, SK where they spent the next seven years, together, reuniting with family and friends. Together, they enjoyed playing cards, dancing, bingo, visiting and traveling. They were members of the Lutheran Church, both in Snow Lake and Wadena. They celebrated 43 years of married life together.
After dad passed, mom made the move to Saskatoon to be near her mother and sister. She rented a couple different apartments before making her move to Shephard’s Place. This is where she made her home until her passing.
Mom lived a very busy life, often it was hard to catch her at home. She was always on the go. She enjoyed walking and often said that walking was what kept her going. Many trips to Tim Horton’s were enjoyed. She was an avid sports fan. She watched most sports but the sport she enjoyed watching the most was football, mainly the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Mom enjoyed playing cards and many hours were spent at her sister Janet’s playing, just the two of them, or with family and friends. She also enjoyed travelling to visit family, the last trip was in June when she came to Snow Lake then went on to Paint Lake to visit and attend her great grandson’s baby shower. Over the years, mom enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many doilies and afghans for her family.
Mom had a very special bond with her sister Janet. They did most things together and they confided and relied on each other often.
Mom welcomed all into her home, and always had the coffee pot full and fresh dinner buns ready to serve. Each Christmas, with 2018 being the last, she would make and gift at least 100 lefsa to family around her.
Mom often mentioned that she prayed every night for each of her family. She said that many years ago she claimed Jesus Christ as her Saviour and was confident as to where her Eternal Home was.
Mom will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts!
Jean was predeceased by her husband Melvin Rolles, son Robert Rolles, parents Lorne and Edna Elliott, grandson Daniel Rolles, brother Kenneth Elliott, sister Vera Elliott and sisters-in-law Sophie Leask and Ethel Holter. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Linda McKenzie of Saskatoon, SK, sons Martin (Donna) of Snow Lake, MB and Kenneth (Maryanne) of Prince Albert, SK, grandchildren Christine (Jeff) McKenzie of Calgary, AB, Lee (Jennifer) McKenzie of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin (Susan) Rolles of Thompson, MB, Jennifer (Curtis) Briscoe of Thompson, MB and Justin Kovach of Red Deer, AB, great grandchildren Jake, Jagger, Tristian, Nocholous and Jackson McKenzie, Kaitlyn, Joel, Brendan and Elizabeth Rolles, Aaron and David Rolles and Thomas Briscoe, sister Janet McDougall, sisters-in-law Lavern (Gordon) Fisher of Kelowna, BC and Joanne (Gary) Thorne of Fort Saskatchewan, AB and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
