Jessie Gladys Marie was born in Wadena Hospital to Frank and Maggie Chasky on March 29, 1930, the youngest of two children. She had one brother, Franklin, and they grew up in the Little Quill district on the family farm, Maple Grove. Jessie received her education at Little Quill School, which was located on the north side and a few yards from their family farm.
At the age of 23, Jessie married the love of her life, Roland Magnusson, on December 12, 1953. They made their home on the Magnusson farm southeast of Wynyard. They were blessed with five children, two boys and three girls: Barry, Wanda, Thelma, Kenny and Dianne.
Being raised on a farm, Jessie loved farm life. She worked very hard over the years putting in many hours doing the chores that a mixed farm entailed: milking cows, raising chickens, and planting a large garden, not to mention also raising five children. She found the time to create a beautiful yard with many beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees.
She joined the Wynyard and District Horticultural Society and received many prizes for her flowers, garden vegetables and for “Best Country Yard” many times throughout the years.
Family was always a special part of Jessie’s life, where she created many special memories for her family through her love of cooking and baking, by having family gatherings at the farm for Christmas dinners. As the family grew and became too big for the farm house, Christmas dinners were moved to the Wynyard Legion Hall.
Jessie and Roland both had a love for dancing. They were members of the Wynyard Square Dancing Club for many years. In that time, they developed many life-long friendships. Together they also enjoyed dancing all the old-time dances.
Roland and Jessie enjoyed 33 years of married life together. Sadly, on December 6, 1986, Jessie lost Roland to a heart attack. Jessie continued to live on the family farm after Roland’s passing.
She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who have many precious memories of spending time at the farm for their summer holidays with their grandparents.
On July 10, 2015, Jessie suffered a stroke and was admitted to Royal University Hospital (RUH), Saskatoon, then spent a couple of months at Parkridge Centre for rehabilitation. With her strong will and determination, she recovered and lived the next two years on the farm she so dearly loved. Due to failing health, Jessie had to leave the farm and moved to Golden Acres in May 2017. She developed pneumonia in December 2017 was re-hospitalized to the RUH Intensive Care Unit. It was nothing short of a miracle, and with many prayers, that she returned to Golden Acres after two months. She had almost made a full recovery until the last month-and-a-half, her health began to slowly deteriorate. Jessie received excellent care in Golden Acres until her peaceful passing on May 22, 2018, with her family by her side.
