Joseph Desjarlais

Joseph Wilfred Desjarlais blessed us with his arrival on June 13, 1990, born to Yvette and Earl Desjarlais. Our beloved Flip entered the world in a hurry, with his mother going into labor at 6:30 PM and him making his grand entrance just an hour later. His quick arrival mirrored the swift and lively spirit he would carry throughout his life. 

Joey cherished his family and his community deeply. From a young age, he embraced hunting, and one of his proudest moments came when he shot his first deer. Rather than keeping it for himself, he insisted that it be shared with the Sunshine family during their feast, showcasing his generous heart.

Joey was known for his twinkling eyes and infectious smile, which often hinted at a playful secret. His hugs radiated love, and he made it a point to express how much he cared for those around him. His essence reflected that of his grandfather, Wilfred. Above all, he adored his daughter, Amaya Rose, who was his world and his mini replica. Joey also took great joy in nurturing his nieces and nephews, dedicating his time to teach, play, and guide them with patience and kindness.

He will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew him. 

Joey is predeceased by his father, Earl Desjarlais; his paternal grandparents, Wilson and Georgina Desjarlais; his maternal grandfather, Wilfred Desjarlais; and several aunts and uncles. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Yvette Desjarlais (Steve Pelly); his daughter, Amaya Rose; his Nookoo, Leona Desjarlais; brothers Jonathon, Levon, Caleb, and Ty; sisters Cheyenne (Terrance Akehurst) and Kendra (Justin Fletcher); and numerous uncles, aunts, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn Joey's passing is his best friend Nic-- in Joeys words "my friend Nic, who has been my only true friend."

Joey will remain forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.
