He was the seventh of 12 children. Joe started school at Ravensburg Country School south of Quinton. At the age of 15, he took his first job working for John Nagy for a couple of years. In 1945 he moved to Regina and worked for the MidWest Creamery and then in 1948 he moved to Quill Lake and lived with his aunt Magdelena Weigel and his cousins. Farming was something Joe always enjoyed. In the fall of 1976 they sold their farm and moved to Wadena where he worked for Milo Mahlum on his farm and also with his auction business. He lived in Wadena until 1989 at which time he sold his house and moved to Saskatoon. In 2007 he returned to Quill Lake and later moved into the Evergreen Country Home in LeRoy until he suffered a stroke in March 2012. In April he moved into the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge until his passing. Dad's greatest enjoyment was visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed going out to hockey games, and then going for coffee afterwards.
