Kay, as she preferred to be called, was born on August 17, 1924, to James and Henrietta McMeekin in Watson, Sask., as the youngest of six.
She grew up in the Wimmer area. After her schooling, she moved to Winnipeg. There she was employed as a nurse's aide at the Deer Lodge Hospital until 1958. In 1958, she returned home to the farm along with her sister Grace to care for their brother Leslie as well as their mother and father. For the next 18 months they dedicated themselves to their every need until their passing.
Also in 1958, she met this lean and lanky ballplayer named Clarence, better known as "Red," who eventually stole her heart. On July 17, 1960, Clarence and Kathleen were married. To this union, three children were born: Randy, Bev and Barry. They actively farmed in the Wimmer district for 18 years before residing in Quill Lake.
Kay was a natural, nurturing caregiver - whether it was caring for patients in Winnipeg or coming home to look after her brother and parents. Then it was on to raising her family with so very much love, support and guidance ... Later on to babysitting, which she so enjoyed, while all along devoting herself to her husband until they parted in 1994.
Her heart was pure GOLD. Even in her final days, she was still more concerned about the well-being of her family and their dealing with the inevitable, all the while reassuring them that she was alright. Her kind, gentle and loving manner, as well as her humour, continued right until God called His Angel home. Her passion truly was her family - her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family: sons, Randy (Terri-Lynn), Barry and daughter Bev (Brian Binsfeld); grandchildren, Kyle (Stevie Lynn) Dyok, Devin and Aylana Loeffler, Brianna and Braden Binsfeld; great-grandchild Nixon Dyok; sister Grace Hill (99 years old) of Watson; in-laws, Phyllis Burnham, Wilfred and Muriel Loeffler, Ralph and Shonnie Loeffler, Allan and Janet Loeffler, and Jeanette Oleksuik; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1994; parents, James and Henrietta McMeekin; brothers, Leslie, Percy and Sydney McMeekin; sister Isabelle Cassels; in-laws, John and Bertha Loeffler, Virginia Loeffler, John and Martha Loeffler, Adolph and Alice Lang, John Burnham, Steve and Dorothy Kulrich, and Joyce Collins.
