Larry Wayne Bjerland, formerly of Rose Valley, SK, passed away on January 7, 2022, in Fillmore, SK at the age of 84. He was born on June 29, 1937, to Thorben and Helga M. Bjerland (nee Hanson) in Rose Valley, SK.
Larry married Leona “Lea” Poole on October 11, 1958, in Barrie, ON. Larry worked at various jobs over the years including at Long & McQuade and Heintzman Piano in Toronto, ON, as a cab driver, school bus driver, Saskatchewan Crop Insurance adjuster and agent, grain buyer, sold hail insurance and was a piano tuner for many years.
Larry was a lifetime member of the Legion. He was a member of the Rose Valley Bridge Club where he loved playing cards, meeting new people and visiting all the time. He was a Scout Leader for approximately 20 years and was an Honorary Elder of Yellow Quill First Nations. He enjoyed his family and friends, young and old, visiting, telling and trading stories. He loved to write songs (21) and poems (100’s) and loved to pass his passion of music on to anyone who wanted to learn. He also enjoyed horses, rodeo, bridge, pinochle and more. Larry served in the Canadian Army from 1955 to 1958 as a Signalman and the Canadian Army Reserves from 1964 to 1965 as Militia.

Larry was predeceased by his grandparents Ole and Anna Bjerland and Karl and Laura Hanson; parents Thorben and Helga Bjerland; in-laws Samuel and Reta Poole; children Kenneth Elwin, Donna Marie, Everett Dale and Brent Emerson; sister, sisters-law and brothers-in-law Arlie and Carl Kolbenson, Evelyn and George Scott, Bill Poole, Sam Poole, William "Bud” Dahnke, Peggy Bjerland, Richard Irvine and Mike Yamniuk; nieces and nephews Susan Yamniuk, Trevor Durack, Tommy Poole, Sam Grisdale and Rob Minnings as well as all his Bjerland and Hanson aunts and uncles.
