With deep sadness, the family of Lena Latoski announces her passing at Golden Acres Lodge in Wynyard, Saskatchewan, on Monday, April 8th, 2024, at the age of 100 years.
Lena was born on January 26th, 1924, in the Krasne District to William and Helena (Romashenko) Usipuik. She attended Halicz School.
She was a hard-working and devoted mother and grandmother. Lena was renowned for her exceptional culinary skills as a cook and baker. Her fantastic meals, including long johns and donuts, were cherished by her family and friends. Her involvement in Sacred Heart Church and the UCWL spanned 55 years, during which she was one of the first five members, contributing in any way she could. She loved gardening & had a beautiful garden well into her nineties. Lena enjoyed hobbies such as making perogies, quilting, sewing, crocheting, berry and mushroom picking, and fishing at Fishing Lake.
Lena's professional journey included employment at the Wynyard Bakery, Cordial Restaurant, Shanty Inn, and, finally, cooking at Golden Acres Lodge.
Preceding Lena in death were her infant daughter Linda, son Walter, her parents William and Helena Usipuik, sisters Anne (Walter) Moleski, Mary (John) Kucey, Katie (Peter) Babey, brothers John (Magnell), Joe, Mack (Dorothy), and sister-in-law Bernice.
Lena is fondly remembered and deeply missed by her six children: Audrey (Don) Solomon, Bernie (Trish), Ray (Carol), Len (Janice), Adele (Dave) Gaboury, Daryle (Ann-Marie); 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother Steve; sister-in-law Elizabeth.
The family extends special gratitude to the doctors and staff of Golden Acres for their kind and compassionate care.
