Lillian Vellacott went home to be with her Lord on November 26, 2017, at the age of 93. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Mom and Grandma will be forever present in our hearts and memories, forever loved and missed.
Lillian was born on August 1, 1924. She was the eldest of seven children born to Hans and Minnie Myhre.
Lillian lived and attended school in the Swift Current and Beaver Flat areas until 1934. She loved her years with her wonderful Grandfather and many relatives. She was greatly influenced by their faith, and her relationship with the Lord has been her guide and strength throughout her life.
In 1934, Lillian moved to Wadena with her parents and attended Wolverton School through Grade 8.
From 1940 to 1942, Lillian worked for farm families, helping with domestic chores. Lillian met Phil while working at one of his brother’s. Phil and Lillian married on January 3, 1942. Lillian became a farmer’s wife and a military wife as Phil enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army for three years.
Phil and Lillian farmed at Clair then Wadena. In 1972, they moved to Barrier Beach Resort, which they owned and operated. They retired to Fosston in 1978 where they lived until Phil’s passing in 1996. In 1999, Lillian moved her house to Wadena where she resided until moving to Weneeda Park Lodge and later to Pleasant View Care Home.
Lillian’s love for her family was always evident in her support and encouragement for each one’s endeavours. She loved nature and wrote many poems, some of which were published. Lillian enjoyed road trips, fishing trips, and visiting family near and far.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband Philip, parents Hans and Minnie Myhre, father- and mother-in-law Maurice and Eva Vellacott, brothers Floyd, Eugene, Howard Myhre, former son-in-law Carl Wolff, former son-in-law Ernie Benesch, granddaughter’s husband Blair Stroh, as well as numerous in-laws.
