Lorne Hanson

December 26, 1927 — January 5, 2017

Lorne Wodahl Hanson was born on December 26, 1927, at the family farm north of Sheho, to Hans and Annie Hanson. Lorne was the third of four children. Lorne married Ellen Mikkonen on December 4, 1958. They were blessed with seven children: Cindy, Lloyd, Laurie, Teena, Dale, Peggy and Patrick. Together they raised their family on the Hanson homestead. Lorne worked road construction for a few summers, while continuing to operate his cattle and grain farm.
Lorne loved sports and dedicated many hours of his time playing, coaching, and making sure the kids all made it to their sporting events. Lorne was a great athlete and excelled at track and field in his younger years. He was very good at fastball, and after he was done playing, he became an umpire on the tournament circuit. He also dedicated a lot of time to the Sheho 4-H. Lorne and Ellen retired to Foam Lake in 1995. Lorne was always very active in his retirement, taking up bowling, and grew to love the game of golf. After retiring to the town of Foam Lake, he also looked after the Legion Hall in town.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents, Annie, and Hans; two brothers, Herb and Neil; daughter Peggy; son Dale; and daughter-in-law Dianne.
Lorne is survived by his wife Ellen; children, Cindy (Kelly), Lloyd, Laurie (Fraser), Teena (Clarke) and Patrick (Tammy); sister Bernice; eleven grandchildren, Timothy (Deedra), Tanya (Brad), Todd (Jenn), Cody, Scott (Amanda), Amy (Dave), Stacy (Eric), Ryan (Kristi), Leah (Nathan), Lane and Eric; as well as six great-grandchildren, Tira, Tanner, Dalanna, Alexis, Kemp and Olivia.
