The children of Bob and Lorraine Colby are orphans with the passing of Lorraine. And the youngest is only in her 60's!
We aren't sure if mom joined dad because she thought after 71 years of marriage, he couldn't get along without her, or thought he was enjoying himself too much with all his old buddies.
At any rate, they are together again.
Mom was born in Saskatoon in 1927. The family moved to Hill Peak area in the depression to farm and Grandpa Watterud was also a carpenter to support the family.
She was the carnival queen in Kelvington when she was young. She often pointed out, since us kids came from royalty, we really should know to behave better.
Mom and dad farmed grain and cattle south of Kelvington until when they semi retired into strictly cattle. Many, many cattle for a retirement plan which dad loved and mom tolerated. When you asked how many cows they had, dad said 35. It may have been an agreement they had to keep the cow herd under 40, but once I called him out on it and said there are at least 35 in Lincoln's pasture, another 35 on the hill and at least 35 by the yard. He said he rounded it off for mom's sake.
Did I mention cows probably weren't the only thing mom tolerated?
She loved to knit. She said it was good therapy and tried to pass it down. It skipped a generation though and one of Barry's girls can pearl one and knit two or whatever the knitting lingo is. Many kids had mitts and sweaters made with love by her.
Mom and dad’s health and good neighbors, allowed them to be able to stay on the farm until the fall of 2021, when they moved to Rose Valley, then into Kelvington lodge together in February 2022.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Bob in October 2022; sisters Clarice and Bernice; brother Elmer; son-in-law Brian Paysen; and grandson Byron Gwilliam.
She is survived by her children Kim Paysen, Barry Colby and Colleen Gwilliam; and her elder brother Ernest in Ontario; also 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons.
Once again, the family can't thank the staff at the lodge enough. We are very lucky to have a facility like that in Kelvington.
We will be having a joint celebration of life for Mom and Dad at a later date.
Much thanks to all the neighbors and friends they had through their many years of life!
