Lorraine Sylvia Petersen was born on September 17, 1948, the eldest of three to Andrew and Olga Meleschak of Fosston, Sask. She passed away peacefully on March 18, 2018, at Kelvington Hospital.
Lorraine received her early education at Fosston School, continuing on at Rose Valley where she graduated from high school in 1967. Lorraine then went on to SIAAS in Saskatoon to receive her 2-year RN diploma in 1969.
Nursing was not just something that she did but was a part of who she was. She nursed in the Rose Valley, Wadena and then finally Kelvington hospitals until her retirement at 60 years of age.
In 1970, Lorraine married Richard Petersen and together they began to build their home and family. In 1973 they moved into their home on the farm. In 1974 their daughter Michelle was born and then two years later their son Grant.
Lorraine loved being a mom and was willing to do anything for her kids, including things outside her comfort zone. Growing up on the farm in Fosston, Lorraine never had much experience with cattle, but when her kids joined 4-H she would be outside helping them lead animals around the corrals and at achievement days. She spent countless hours at the arena cheering Grant on in his hockey and helping with Michelle’s carnivals.
Lorraine loved her outside garden and flowers and could make them flourish. Her green thumb never extended inside the house, so she decorated with her hobbies. She enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting and gave many of her projects away to those she cared about.
Lorraine found her true calling when she became a BABA.  She would absolutely beam when the grandkids were around, and they in turn would beam when they saw her! The kids were lucky to have had numerous hugs, kisses and snuggles with their Baba. She always had time for them and it is hard to find a picture of Lorraine without at least one grandkid by her side or on her lap.  The day Lorraine became a Baba was also the day she forgot how to use the word NO.
Lorraine was active with the Nut Lake Church and Ladies, the Rose Valley Museum, and the Secret Sisters.
Lorraine was predeceased by her father Andrew and mother Olga; brother Orest, mother-in-law Juliet, father-in-law Carl, sisters-in-law Elaine and Joanne, brother-in-law Gary, and son-in-law Darren.
She leaves to mourn, her husband Richard; daughter Michelle and her children, Paige and Victor; son Grant (Karen) and their children, Gauge and Kenzie; sister Lesia (John) Sywenky; sisters-in-law, Myrna Petersen and Glenda Petersen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
