Margaret Vivian Ottmann was born on January 18, 1928, and passed away on January 21, 2015, at Pleasant View Care Home, where she had resided for the last 2A½ years.
She was raised on a farm in the Kuroki district and attended Bear Lake School until Grade 10. Margaret then worked as a nurse's aide at the Wadena Hospital and lived in residence. As the oldest in the family, circumstances brought her back home to help out until she married Norman Ottmann in 1952.
Her marriage took her to live just a short distance north of where she grew up. She worked hard on the farm and also at the Robinson's Store in Wadena, but always had time for her children whether it be school, work, or a board game.
Margaret had a love for music and dancing and she and Norman could be seen kicking up their heels at the local dances.
In 1980 they retired, sold the farm and moved into Wadena. Margaret loved town life. She became involved in the seniors' drop-in club where she was a member for many years - even being elected president for a term.
While still able, she and Norman enjoyed camping and travelled all over western Canada. She also went on a trip to Las Vegas (rafting on the Colorado River), a bus trip to Branson, Missouri, and on many casino trips.
When health forced them to move to Spruce Manor, Margaret once again joined in socializing and helping whomever she could. She loved painting, crocheting, knitting, crafts and gardening, always doing well at the craft sales. She also wasn't one to sit back and watch, bringing home medals from card tournaments, shuffleboard tournaments and bowling.
She also had a passion for sports - from helping her kids set up a high jump pit by the garden to practise for a field day to watching curling, gymnastics, skating, swimming AND heaven forbid, do not call or drop in during a BlueJay's or a Roughrider's game.
Margaret lived for her kids, her grandkids and her great-grandkids. She loved them all and was always up for a visit.
Even though she fought with every last breath, Alzheimer's and the effects of a stroke finally took her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Eva Young; her husband Norman; brother Charlie Young, and grandson Jason Szwec.
Margaret is survived by her children, Bev Young, June (Oscar) Szwec, Wayne Ottmann and Karen (Darryl) Rorquist; grandchildren, Irma Unger, Michael (Loreena) Szwec and Stacie (Ryan) Eldstrom, Brandon (Meaghan) South, Melissa (Quinton) Cloarec, Chyvawn (Jared) Nabseth and Nathan Rorquist; and great-grandchildren, Mathew, Kaitlyn and Timothy Unger, Elissa and Mason Szwec, Taylor and Ryder Eldstrom, and Bryn, Jaxon and Layton South; brother Roy (Judy) Young and sister Pat (Les) Moore; sisters-in-law, Terry Young and Florence (Bruce) Lamb, and their families; plus many nieces and nephews.
