Mary Berge passed away peacefully on July 8, 2015, at Kelvindell Lodge in Kelvington with her daughters at her side.
Mary was born in Wolica, Poland, on June 12, 1926. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1931, settling in the town of Winnipegosis, Manitoba.
After high school graduation, Mary attended nursing college at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg from 1946-1948 and became a registered nurse. In February 1949, she secured a position at Rose Valley Hospital, where she met her husband Phillip Berge. They were married in November 1949 and raised six daughters on their farm west of Rose Valley.
In 1985, they retired to their new home in Rose Valley, where Mary lived until the summer of 2014 when she moved to the Manor for a brief time. She became a resident of Kelvindell Lodge in the fall of 2014.
Mary was an active member in the Zion Lutheran Church in Rose Valley as well as the Seniors' Centre. She enjoyed gardening, travelling, playing cards and was an avid reader.
She was predeceased by her husband Phillip; her parents, Dmytro and Eudokia Chomyn; brother John and sister-in-law Marg; sister Catherine and brother-in-law Fred; two nephews, Don and Ivan; in-laws, Nick and Emelia Berge; brothers-in-law, Floyd, Jim, Alex and Nick; nephew Gary and two nieces, LaVonne and Eileen.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Joanne (Andy) McVagh, Carol (Wayne) Holtzman, Phyllis Bigler (Daryl Kuemper), Betty (Bernie) Balaski, Norinne (Clint) Sullivan, and Coleen Leffler; grandchildren, Shannon (Nick), Aaron (Erin), Adam, Tammy (Mike), Chris (Shelly), David (Bonnie), Martey (Stephani), Bernadette (Mark), Jessica, Matthew, Jayme, Ashtyn and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Landon, Sterling, Abigail, Elliott, Sophie, Nora, Sasha, Liam, Carter, Katlyn, Hayden, Nixon, Kennedy and Sophie; sisters-in-law, Vivian, Joyce, Laila and Margo; and by numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
