Mervin Ernie Kitzul

March 3, 1933 — January 2, 2025

Foam Lake

Mervin Ernie Kitzul, 91, of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, went to be with his heavenly father on January 2, 2025.

Mervin was born on March 3, 1933, to John and Dora Kitzul (née Sandul) on the family farm near Tuffnell, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of five children (predeceased by an infant sister). He attended Rivington School.

Following the passing of his father at a young age, Mervin took over the operation of the family farm along with his mother. During his life he pursued many interests such as dancing, fishing, accounting, and reading (especially his Bible). Most of all he enjoyed having coffee with friends.

In 1978, Mervin married former spouse, Sharon Ransome (née Zander). Together they had two children, Aaron (1979) and Carrie (1980). He spoke with much love and pride of his children.

Mervin lived and worked in Regina for many years prior to his retirement in Foam Lake in 2004.

Mervin was a man of deep faith. He was a devoted, active member of Gospel Fellowship Church in Foam Lake. He will be remembered for his kindness and as a person who gave his time freely to help others. His acts of generosity took many forms – driving a friend to an appointment in another town, playing his harmonica for the enjoyment of others, visiting and offering prayers to those who needed company, or being among the first to welcome newcomers to the community.

He is survived by his children Aaron (Tammy) Kitzul and Carrie Kitzul; grandchildren, Zachary and Dakota Kitzul; sisters, Joan (Orest) Malinowski, Elaine (Joe) Bryksa, Virginia Mullin, and Violet (Ron) Busch; and his Aunt Jean Skwarchuk as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John (1954) and Dora (1983); his infant sister, Emily Jane (1936); his brother-in-law, Keith Mullin (2021); and his grandparents as well as many other relatives.

A memorial service will take place on April 12, 2025 at Gospel Fellowship Church with Pastor Ken Graham officiating. Details to follow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Jubilee Nursing Home who cared so much for Mervin during his time there.
