Michael Gruszecki was born to Joseph and Katherine (née Zimrose) on December 19, 1932, on the farm west of Nora, Saskatchewan. He attended Bradgate School. After school Mike ventured up north to Stanley Mission to build schools and work on the diamond drills.
In April 1969 Mike met Beryl Miller from Avonlea, Saskatchewan, at his friend Kazimer Dziubek’s wedding to Beryl’s sister Barbara. And on October 11, 1969, Mike and Beryl were married and made their home on the farm.
Mike was a jack of all trades, but farming and carpentry seemed to accompany him throughout his life. He helped with building the Tisdale Recplex and the Co-op grocery store as well as numerous Pool grain elevators in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, all while farming the family homestead.
Mike always had a love of gardening and when there was an abundance, he would share the fruits of his labour with friends, family and neighbours.
Mike loved having family and friends around. You could always count on a cup of coffee, great conversation or a game of cards when visiting. He enjoyed fishing with friends, cutting wood, picking mushrooms and tending to his livestock, which included the many barn cats. Even through the last four years of dealing with health issues, he still enjoyed planting a large garden, cutting wood and feeding his cats.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Katherine; his baby boy, brother Barney; and sisters, Sanny and Josephine; as well as mother- and father-in-law, John and Doris Miller; brothers-in-law, Gordon Potter, Kazimer Dziubek, and Alex Makarow; and sister-in-law Rita Miller.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his wife Beryl; daughters, Kathy (Mark Souce) and Chantelle (Sadrine); his sisters, Pearl Potter, Mary Makarow, Jean (Nick) Remizowski and Helen (Lawrence) Westby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in-laws and friends.
