Muriel Eirickson passed away peacefully on August 28, 2019 in the Golden Acres Nursing Home. She was born on October 9, 1927 in Wynyard, SK to William and Edith Potter. Muriel was the fifth of seven children: brothers Ralph and George and sisters Alzeta, Eula, Marg and Edie. She attended school in Wynyard, graduating in 1946. Muriel worked at Viner’s General Store and enjoyed singing with the Anglican Church Choir.

On November 24, 1946, Muriel married Walter Eirickson of Elfros, together they farmed north of Elfros and raised two children, Lorie and Neil. In the early years Muriel was a member of the Elfros Junior Aid and taught Sunday School at the Elfros Union Church. She enjoyed baking, her garden, reading, sewing, knitting and cross stitch. She made many lovely items as gifts to her family. Ceramics was her favorite as she took ceramic classes in Foam Lake and Wynyard. She also enjoyed her Chinese cooking classes and shared her many recipes.

Walter and Muriel enjoyed several years of traveling on senior bus tours through Canada and the U.S. They also enjoyed family holidays, traveling and camping at Fishing Lake.

Christmas Eve was a very special event for the family. Muriel carried on the Icelandic custom of having all the family together at her home for a huge meal, gift giving and enjoying traditional Icelandic food. She had several traditional recipes she made every year: vinarterta, fruit cake, oatmeal date cookies and jam jam cookies.

Walter and Muriel enjoyed 59 years of married life together. Sadly, on March 15, 2006 Muriel lost Walter to failing health. She continued to live on the family farm until November of 2017.

The most important thing in her life was her family. She looked forward to visits from her six grandchildren who liked to stay over on weekends. Grandma always had time to color, make puzzles and, of course, had lots of cookies and cupcakes to eat. She looked forward to the arrival of each of her 19 great grandchildren, so grateful for each new child. She felt blessed to be so fortunate to have grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Muriel was predeceased by her parents William and Edith Potter; husband Walter Eirickson; brother Ralph Potter; sisters Alzeta Nolan, Eula Kristjanson and Marg Hood; sisters-in-law Agnes Potter, Edna Potter and Nora Potter; brothers-in-law Barney Nolan, Ormy Kristjanson and Ray Hood; mother and father-in-law Ernest and Anna Eirickson; sisters-in-law Yolanda Gislason and Irene Eirickson; brothers-in-law Oli Eirickson and Glenn Johnson and nieces Cindy Savage and Paulette Potter.
