Nestor Walter John Nowakowski passed away in Regina General Hospital on January 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Nestor was born on April 17, 195,1 in Porcupine Plain to Walter and Annie Nowakowski. Nestor was the youngest of five children and grew up on the family farm at Porcupine Plain.
Nestor worked at building construction, installing sprinkler systems, and auto body before settling on a career with Saskatchewan Department of Highways which he retired from after 35 years. Never one to sit still long he accepted a job with the Town of Wadena as Cemetery Caretaker then later Pasweign Cemetery also. He also was Building Caretaker for the Wadena Curling Club and operated combine at the Fishers during harvest.
Nestor married Patricia Cox on August 10, 1974. They resided in Porcupine Plain 3 years before moving to Wadena. When they moved to Wadena they brought along 3 month old daughter, Rhonda. Son, Ryan , joined them 4 years later. Nestor dearly loved his family and was very happy when Rhonda married Ryan Chorney giving him another son. He was overjoyed when granddaughter Eden arrived. He was her favorite person for a time.
Nestor leaves to mourn his wife Pat of 49 years, son Ryan of Wadena, daughter Rhonda (Ryan) Chorney and granddaughter Eden of Regina, brother Rudy Novak of Edmonton and William (Katie) Nowakowski of Saskatoon, sister Mary Currie of St. Albert, sister-in-law Shirley Cox of Norquay and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Leona Wolkowski and brother-in-law Joe Wolkowski, sister-in-law Faye Greier, brothers-in-law Wesley Greier and Rodney Cox, and nephew Brian Wolkowski.
