It was with the greatest sadness that the family and many friends of Richard Bernard Urbanoski learned that he passed away suddenly on March 1st.
Richard lived pretty much his whole life in Wishart. He was well known by everyone in the community and was active in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
When he left school, he worked as a trucker but came home after his father died and took over running the family farm. He always was a great driver and continued to work as a trucker in the quiet winter months for many years but really his life was centred on the farm.
Richard loved farming. Although it was a hard life in many ways, it was one he truly lived for. Whenever anyone talked about his retiring, he would shrug the idea away and say “then what would I do? I like where I am”.
Another thing he just loved was fishing: taking his boat out to the lake and quietly bringing in the catch. Or driving around to visit and see how things were going. He adored all the many nieces and nephews and kids and cousins that came to visit the farm and always delighted in letting them ‘drive’ the trucks and tractors.
Above all, Richard was a great and gentle man who loved his family with all his heart.
For our family, he was our rock and our foundation. He was, truly, a gentleman who will be sorely missed but always lovingly remembered.
Our hearts are on the ground for this loss but we take comfort that he returns to the soil he worked on for so much of his life, and his body returned to the land he loved.
“Every man’s death is a standing in for every other.
And as death comes to all there is no way to abate the fear of it -
except to love that man who stands for us.”
