Ronald Willis Hunt was born on the Hunt farm in the R.M. of Ponass Lake on July 3, 1936, to Ronald and Clara Hunt. He attended the Barrier Lake school.
Willis was a very hard worker and he had a colourful professional history. His many jobs included diamond driller, water truck driver, and groundskeeper, among a great many others. This began when he was a young man, working in lumber camps in the Hudson Bay area and in the year before his wedding he worked in Alberta.
In 1962 he married Grace McDonald and resided on the Gjerde farm by Rose Valley. They had two daughters: Brenda Grace, born in 1963, and Shirley Elizabeth, born in 1966. After a few years, they bought farmland at Algrove where he worked as a grader operator at the R.M. of Barrier Valley. He became certified as a Journeyman Mechanic at Kelsey in Saskatoon before moving to Rose Valley and becoming a truck driver for the Department of Highways.
In 1989, Willis and Grace moved to Whitehorse, Yukon and worked and travelled there for 7.5 years. Willis then "retired," but he never really stopped working completely, as he assisted local farmers in Watson and Rose Valley.
He took great pride in having a perfect garden and lawn. He also loved going to auction sales, visiting friends and family, and reading. He particularly enjoyed to read Westerns and nonfiction books. He was partial to draft horses, and liked to attend the Heavy Horse Days at Rama and Bjorkdale. He had a great love for old-time fiddle and country music.
Willis and Grace have been back enjoying their lives together in Rose Valley for the past 11 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Clara, and his sister Shirley.
He is survived by his wife Grace; daughters, Brenda (Eric) Nordick and Betty (Tom) Arsenault; his three grandchildren, Tyrell Nordick and Robyn and Stephen Arsenault; his siblings, Elinor (Stanley) Pacholik, Bert (Cheryl) Hunt, Beverly (Alex) Ewen, and Bryan (Connie) Hunt; and his many nieces and nephews.
