Ronald Eddy Muntain
April 15, 1952 – December 25, 2022
After a two year battle with colon cancer, Ron passed away on Christmas day at the Regina Pasqua Hospital.
Ron was diagnosed with schizophrenia in his mid-20s. Despite many challenges posed by his mental illness, his belief in his connection with the Holy Ghost, sense of humour and love of music (particularly Elvis, Johnny Cash and Stompin’ Tom Connors) helped him cope and make friends.
Ron was predeceased by his father George Muntain, mother Olga (nee Sawchuk) and infant brother Joseph, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his brother Dennis, niece Sherry (Dale), nephew Greg, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ron grew up in Wadena, SK. He enjoyed socializing with friends, swimming and fishing. Ron was able to work for close to 15 years. His jobs included grocery clerk, bin construction, mining, park maintenance and ultimately meat cutter. Ron’s jobs took him to Sudbury ON, Kimberly BC, Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina.
Ron lived independently for many years, however over time moved to supported living and finally the Wascana Rehabilitation Center – Mental Health Unit. Thank you to all those who assisted him along the way (landlords, medical professionals, social services and corrections staff, caregivers, friends and family).
Memorial donations in Ron’s honour can be made to the Schizophrenia Society of SK or Hospitals of Regina Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wadena, SK.
