Margaret Anna Ruth Grona of Kelvington, SK passed away on  November 29, 2019 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 85. Ruth was born on April 26, 1934 to Raymond Thomas and Mary (nee Tanner) at home on the farm, 18-38-10 W2 in the High Hill District northeast of Kelvington, SK.

Ruth married Nick Grona in 1952 and they had three children: Anna, Dale and Allan. She was the hardest of workers no matter what she was doing. She worked alongside Nick at the tire shop and worked as hard as any man at the shop. After her divorce, she worked for her son-in-law Dennis at his clothing store and as a clerk at A + H Groceries. She also worked in the kitchen at Peterson’s Auction Market with her friend, Fran Ditter.

Ruth was instrumental in organizing the Wadena Singles Social Club where she served as secretary-treasurer for many years. Through this association she met her partner, Francis Doan. Ruth lived to garden. She treasured summer when she could spend all her days outside in the garden or picking berries. She loved making preserves from her bountiful garden, always providing her children, grandchildren and others with her homemade jams and pickles, and many vegetables as her garden was so large there was no way she could have ever eaten it all herself. Ruth loved to dance and there were many late nights as Francis and Ruth attended dances as far away as Beatty, when they were younger. Many evenings were also spent playing cards with friends and neighbors at the farm.

Ruth is survived by her partner Francis Doan of Kelvington, SK; daughter Anna Plaquin of Humboldt, SK; sons Dale (Claudette) Grona of Porcupine Plain, SK and Allan (Bernie) Grona of Kelvington, SK; granddaughters Linda Plaquin of Humboldt, SK, Monica Colborn of Delisle, SK, Sara Grona of Brandon, MB, Alicia Longman of Kelvington, SK, Rebecca Gerspacher of St. Brieux, SK and Jenna Choquette  of Warman, SK; grandsons Louie Plaquin of Esterhazy, SK, Daniel Grona of Delisle, SK, Ryan Grona of Porcupine Plain, SK, Kyle Grona of Warman, SK, Nicholas Grona of Saskatoon, SK and Dallas Grona of Porcupine Plain, SK; sixteen great grandchildren; sister May Grona of Edmonton, AB; brothers Ira Thomas of Fort Saskatchewan, AB and David Thomas of Saskatoon, SK as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Mary, brothers Ivan, Duncan and Reed, niece Bonnie Thomas, great grandson Vynn, special friend Henry Haas and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
