Our mother passed peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of October 13, 2019 in her 96th year. She is survived by her children Joanna (Bill) Massiah, John Zibulak, Delores Zibulak, Kathleen Reay and Connie (Jack) Weeks; grandchildren Malcolm (Angela) Massiah, Mandy (Sean Pell) Massiah, Spencer (Michelle) Massiah, Daniel Weeks, Nicole (Joel Fitzgerald) Weeks and Keith Horne and five great granddaughters Veronica, Lydia, Ivy and Rosa Massiah and Georgia Pell. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Randy Reay, her parents Thomas and Anne, and all her brothers, sisters and in-laws. "I am the last one" she would say. Most painfully, she was predeceased by her loving husband John in 1971. She was married for 25 years and loved him for 75 years.
When John passed away, she was left with three young girls and a farm to manage. Her son John abandoned university at age 21 to become a farmer. Mom believed in self sufficiency and hard work. She learned to drive and was proud to get her driver's license at age 63. She raised geese, ducks, chickens, cattle and even guinea fowl. She gathered berries and mushrooms. Her garden was not a success unless she could give produce away. She canned and canned, cooked and cooked and baked and baked. Mom loved to sew, crotchet, knit and craft. She made quilts to sell and for gifts.
At 88 years Mom experienced health problems that slowed her down. She spent her last three years in Foam Lake in the care of Jubilee Care Home and remained the anchor that held our family together.
