Celebrating the life of Theresa Christina Van Os

March 30, 1934 - November 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Theresa Christina Van Os, who left this world on November 29, 2024, at the age of 90, at Pleasantview Care home in Wadena. Born on March 30, 1934, in Crooked River, Saskatchewan, Theresa touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.

Theresa, a dedicated daughter and sister, grew up in a loving family environment. She was the third of four girls born to Mike and Rose (Kambeitz) Folk. Theresa was born at Crooked River, Saskatchewan. She then lived in Candiac and moved to Wadena at a young age. She grew up during the depression and second World War. Theresa acquired Polio when she was a child, and its effects influenced her health in later years. Theresa's educational journey began in Wadena, where she attended school until the 11th grade. Though she left school to enter the workforce, her thirst for knowledge never waned. She later completed her GED, demonstrating her determination and commitment to personal growth. Her early career as a telephone operator in Wadena was just the beginning. After marrying Ken, Theresa embraced her role as a homemaker, where she poured her love and energy into creating a warm and inviting home for her family. She was the heart of their household, always ensuring that each meal was made with love and that her family felt cherished. Her kids remember often smelling fresh baking when they would arrive home from school.

In August 1956, Theresa married the love of her life, Kenneth Van Os, in a beautiful ceremony in Wadena, Saskatchewan. Their union would span an incredible 68 years, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they built a life rich with cherished moments and a deep bond that few ever experience. After their marriage, Theresa and Ken lived in Rosthern, Nipawin, Kelvington and then returned to Wadena for retirement. Theresa lived in Pleasantview Care Home for the past three years and Ken joined her there for the last year and a half.

Over the years Theresa enjoyed canning, baking, doing handwork such as needle point and Hardanger as well as many different crafts. She also enjoyed Sudoku and playing cards and games. Theresa volunteered as a U.C.W. member, and as a leader for Explorers, Messengers and for 4-H and she enjoyed her time spent with the Wadena Senior’s Group. She spent many years involved with Avon when they lived in Kelvington. She loved her summer cottage at Fishing Lake where she spent every summer at the cabin for over 60 years. She enjoyed entertaining her grandkids and family there. She also enjoyed winter holidays to Arizona, Hawaii and many trips to the Okanagan.

Theresa's legacy lives on through her devoted husband Ken and their beloved children: Blaine Van Os (Pam), Kim Kizlyk, and Dawn Lorenzen (Jay): her grandchildren Shelley Van Os, Bradley Van Os (Amy McAvena), Jason Kizlyk (Kelly), Kris Kizlyk (Gail), Chelsey Devine (Nolan Reykdal), Scott Lorenzen and James Lorenzen (Taylor): and her great grandchildren Braden, Kaden, Preston, Bobby, Abby, Cody, Elise, Carter, Sawyer, Kipton, Grace, Ava and James. Each of them carried a special place in her heart, and she delighted in watching them grow and flourish. She would like them to all remember the wonderful times they had together.

Furthermore, Theresa is survived by her sisters Kay Matthews and Anne Kirwan. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mike and Rosie Folk, her sister Rosella Anderson, her son-in-law Joe Kizlyk, and her daughter-in-law Diane Van Os. Each of these losses left a mark on her heart, yet she carried their memories with grace and strength.

Throughout her life, Theresa’s kindness shone brightly, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her laughter, warmth, and spirit will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her family and friends. May she rest in peace knowing that she will remain in our hearts.

A Private Graveside Service to celebrate Theresa's life will be held in the Summer of 2025.
