Marie Therese Kohlen was born on June 28, 1925, at land location 27-39-19-W2. She was one of 11 children born to Aime and Marie Prevost. She went to school in the Barrier Lake district from 1931 until 1942.
Therese’s first experienced working out in 1941 for Martial Duberuil during threshing time. She also worked for Mr. and Mrs. Quessey in St. Front, a coffee shop in Rose Valley as well as various places around St. Front, Rose Valley and Archerwill.
She met Laverne Kohlen in 1949 and they were married on August 9, 1950, in St. Front. Six children were born to this union: Carmel, Ken, Patrick, Sheldon, Michael and Lorraine.
After the children got older, she worked at Toye’s Café, then the Archerwill Hotel and then headed up north to cook in the drilling camps.
Laverne and Therese enjoyed fishing, camping and some travelling. Laverne passed away on February 23, 1983, and this left a large void in her life. She continued to stay active and worked some until she retired. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed the grandchildren and all the gatherings and the different occasions. Her four-legged friend Chester gave her lots of joy and company.
In January 2016, she became ill and could no longer live alone so after hospital stays and a short time in Rose Valley Community Spirit Manor, Newmarket Place became her home. There she enjoyed all the activities, music, outings and socializing. Sadly, Therese’s life took a turn and she fell ill again and she passed away on November 2, 2017.
She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, George, Aime, Louis and Yvonne.
Therese is survived by her children, Carmel (Ron), Ken (Shelley), Patrick, Sheldon (Sherri-Lynn), Michael (Connie) and Lorraine; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Geraldine (Rick) Hailey, Jeff (Kyla) Holden, Waylon and Logan, Sherry, Tara (Shawn), Ashley (Dana) Macie and Bailey, Lonavin (Lynn) Liam, Hudsyn and Ashtyn, Jordan, Aimee, Curtis (Sommer) Autumn and Pierce; siblings Irene, Julian (June), Simone, Ernest (Debbie) and John (Lynn); sister-in-law Betty Prevost; in laws, Genevieve Hogman and Joe (Angie) Kohlen.
We are so blessed and thankful to have had our dear mother grandmother and great-grandmother of 92 wonderful years.
