Thomas Timoshuk of Foam Lake, SK passed away peacefully on March 28, 2019 in the Wynyard Hospital at the age of 93 years.
Tom was born January 28, 1926 to Tom and Mary (Kiel) Timoshuk on the homestead of his parents near Fishing Lake, SK where he continued to live until his passing. He attended Osland and Fishing Lake Schools throughout his childhood, with his last year of school being taken by correspondence since his teacher could only teach up to grade ten.
In his early years, Tom worked at logging camps, for the railroad, stooked wheat, thrashed grain and worked at mechanic shops in both Wadena and Foam Lake. Tom began farming shortly before marrying Eileen (Axford) in 1955. In that year, they also built a house and sawmill and raised turkeys for hatchlings. He also trapped to make ends meet and managed to build a cattle barn to raise his herd of eight cows. As the children were born, the farming operation grew. He became a school bus driver in 1960 and drove for eight years. During this time Tom was very resourceful, serving as the community mechanic for many neighbours and building his own machinery including a seed cleaner, a snowmobile and the kids’ motorbike. Tom continued live on the farm with his son Mervin right up to the day before his passing.
Tom had many hobbies including taxidermy, fishing, hunting, painting, playing guitar and accordion, wood carving and creating a small-scale model of his and Eileen’s farm. Camping trips with the family were always a much-enjoyed break from the farm. He volunteered with many community organizations including the Leslie Beach Co-operative, Foam Lake Credit Union, Wildlife Federation, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, RM of Foam Lake, and Foam Lake Co-operative. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends on coffee row both in Wadena and Foam Lake. He will be forever remembered for his dedication to supporting his family, through hard work on the farm, and the countless stories of days gone by.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Eileen, his sister Vera and parents Tom and Mary. He is survived by his children: Mervin Timoshuk; Bonnie (Harold) Desjarlais and their children Lecia and Robynn; Penny (Ray) Smorodin and their children Allie, Erin and Dylan; Karen Timoshuk (Craig Hanson) and their children Jasmine and Julia; Charlotte Timoshuk; siblings: Luba, Nadja and Pete, and many nieces and nephews.
