February 18, 1929 - April 11, 2016
Tony Panasiuk passed away peacefully at Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena on April 11, 2016, with his wife Betty and his son Dave by his side.
Tony was born at his farm home at Fishing Lake. As a teenager, he left to work in the lumber mill in northern Saskatchewan and later returned home to farm with his father.
Tony enjoyed working on old cars, fishing, playing guitar, and sports.
On November 21, 1951, he and Betty were married and settled on the family farm at Fishing Lake. There, they raised Hereford cattle, grew grain and began their family.
In the early '80s, Tony and Betty sold their farm and moved to Wadena, where Tony built a shop to repair small motors. He loved to tinker and spent long days working and visiting with customers, many of whom became his friends. Tony was a master at so many things. Whether it was to fix a lawn mower, weed eater or a kid's bike, many people utilized his skills over the years. He was a man of few words and rarely spoke the words, "I can't fix it." When you entered his little workshop behind the house, he greeted you with a quiet smile and instructions to, "Put it over there," beside the ever-growing pile of other items customers had brought for him to repair. Before you knew it, Tony would call to say it was ready.
Tony loved to travel. He and Betty travelled to Dawson Creek, Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto to visit family and friends. He cherished his memories of dining on top of the CN Tower, attending Blue Jays ball games at the SkyDome and riding the "Maid of the Mist" at Niagara Falls, attending Edmonton Oilers Hockey Games with his grandchildren or travelling up the Alaska Highway. One of his fondest memories was travelling through the United States with his son David on numerous occasions to deliver ambulances.
Tony would often pass his idle time playing cards at the Seniors' Drop In Centre. His favorite pastime was playing pool with his good friend Don Adams. As he walked home across the street, he would always be smiling - regardless of whether he lost or won. He just enjoyed Don's company and friendship!
Tony also enjoyed detecting with his very good friend Ken Nabe. They covered the three prairie provinces searching for hidden treasures.
Tony was a very caring and soft-spoken man. His quiet personality earned him many good friends. He loved his family and was very proud of them. They all had his unconditional love. He always put their concerns before his own. His greatest wish was to see his children and grandchildren do well.
Tony was predeceased by his children, Judy, Joan, Brian and Dorothy, and by his parents, Mike and Nellie.
He is survived by Betty, his loving and devoted wife for 65 years; his son David; grandchildren, Rob and Shaun (Jenn), Kristin and Kortnee, Brandon and Bryan; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Ashley, Kendall, Aiden, Curtis, Thomas, Brayden and Jace; sisters, Mary and Annie (John); and by many nieces and nephews.
