It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Valerie LaRose on May 5, 2022 at the age of 72.
Valerie Marie LaRose was born in Kelvington Union Hospital to Elmer and Louise Shirley on February 14, 1950. She was the first of five children. She attended school at Farmingdale School and later Kelvington High School. After completing high school, she worked in Kelvington for a few years, then decided to venture out and move to Regina. It was in Regina where she married George LaRose in 1973.
Valerie and George lived in Regina for 5 years. During their time in Regina, Valerie worked at a doctor’s office, while George attended a welding program and did his apprenticeship. In 1976, the couple welcomed their first child David.
In 1978, Valerie and George moved to Pilot Butte, SK, but continued to work in Regina. In 1980, they had their second child, a beautiful daughter Jennifer. They raised their family in the Regina area. Valerie was always kept very busy, and enjoyed running to sporting events with her children. In the mid 1990’s, the couple decided it was time to return to Valerie’s roots on the farm, and she and George bought an acreage north of Kelvington. They have resided in there since.
Valerie enjoyed reading, gardening, travelling, quilting, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was never scared of a challenge and enjoyed learning/trying new things. Most recently she had taken up making pottery.
Valerie is survived by her husband George, her son David LaRose (Andrea), daughter Jennifer LaRose-Ekren (Shawn), her granddaughters Celia Ekren, and Bea LaRose, and her grandsons Okley Ekren, Levi Ekren, Remle LaRose, and Mac LaRose. She also leaves behind her sisters Laurie Booth and Judy Shirley, as well as brothers Jim Shirley and Gerry Shirley, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents Elmer and Louise Shirley.
