Walfred Edwin Sjoberg was born on August 30, 1928, to Edwin and Jeannette Sjoberg. He passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Killarney, Manitoba, at the age of 85. He grew up and went to school in the Haglof District. When he was 15 years old he quit school and started farming and eventually assumed full responsibility for the farm operation as his father's health failed.

He had an avid interest in the livestock industry and attended many shows, sales and harness-racing events across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He raised purebred Shorthorn cattle and Standardbred horses and continued to operate a mixed farm until the early 90s when he moved to Manitoba.

He was content with a simple lifestyle. He had a great sense of humour and was an interesting person to talk to as he had an excellent memory for stories of days gone by. After moving to Manitoba, he made numerous trips home to visit with his many family members and friends. He had a large extended family and enjoyed gatherings with 'the cousins'. He enjoyed reading, especially horse and cattle magazines and history-based material.

In 1963 he married Yvonne Artman and they had four children: Arnold, Charles, Cindy and Jennifer.

Walfred was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Jeannette and brother-in-law Jim Hill.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his companion of 22 years Margaret Scott and her family; his children, Arnold, Charlie, Cindy (Shane) Ekstrom and Jennifer; grandchildren, Brendan and Kyle Ekstrom; great-grandson Ryker Ekstrom; sister Lovona Hill; nieces, Rae and Joanne Hill; and Aunt Gladys Spafford.
