February 5, 1926 - February 22, 2016
William "Bill" Baxter Barr was born on February 5, 1926, in Glasgow, Scotland. He passed away on February 22, 2016, at the Nokomis Health Centre.
Bill came to Canada at the age of two years with his parents and older brother. They settled on a farm near Mozart, Sask.
Some years later, the family moved to Wynyard, where Bill worked for Stern Motors as a mechanic.
Bill married Kathleen Ferrell in 1969.
He left Stern Motors and began working at the Wynyard Hospital in the maintenance department. This position included looking after the hospital grounds and planting flowers. His boss sent him to Saskatoon to take a test to acquire his boiler papers. He then became the boiler man at the hospital.
When Bill retired, he and his brother Alec moved to Quill Lake. They spent many happy hours at Club 15 playing pool, cards and socializing. Bill won a pool tournament on the "A" side with the Quill Lake seniors in 1994.
After his brother Alec passed away, Bill moved into Quill Lake Housing. He loved his little house and especially his red shed with the green roof. He spent many happy hours tinkering in his shed. He had every tool you could think of in that shed.
One of his hobbies was making wooden flowers. He proudly displayed them all over his front yard.
Due to ill health, he became a permanent resident of the Nokomis Health Centre in May 2014. At the centre he helped with the water cart every morning. Some activities he enjoyed were baking, gardening and listening to music. He liked standing at the nursing desk.
Bill was very caring, always willing to help and had a quirky sense of humour. He will be missed.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother Alec and his wife Kathleen.
Left to cherish his memory are friends, Kim and Cliff Cottrell of Quill Lake, and many others he met throughout his lifetime.
