On October 1, 2022 the Chief Sabitawasis School hosted Orange Shirt Day (National Truth & Reconciliation).
It was a great opportunity for our students/community members to learn the wrongs of the past, 60’s scoop and the residential school system, this is the truth that was presented by Wayne William Snellgrove, FLFN member who was taken from the hospital as an infant and adopted in the USA. A residential school survivor, Cecile Smith, FLFN member, who spent years of her childhood in a residential school.
Reconciliation is happening and thriving at Chief Sabitawasis School every day by all who work in our school. The different groups of people from other communities all have a common goal to educate our children in the best way possible!
A thousand megwîc’s to the Badger Family from Kawacatoose, the dancers from Saskatoon, drum group 319 from George Gordon First Nation, Arena Director, Ron McNab, MC, Michael Laliberte and our very own dancers from Fishing Lake, Wadena Coop for the food for the BBQ, water for the walk, and Tompkins Funeral Home staff for cooking/serving! It was a great day!
Tompkins Funeral Home was delighted to be able to participate and support this worthy event. Thank you to the Chief Sabitawasis School for this opportunity!
